(Phoenix, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s golf team closed out its second tournament of the season on Monday at the Paradise Valley CC Invitational held at the Encanto Golf Course in
Phoenix.
The Aztecs finished in fourth place in the final team standings with a two-day score of 579 (289-290). They finished 4-strokes behind Chandler-Gilbert Community College (575-294-281) and 14-strokes from Eastern Arizona College (565-293-272) for second place. South Mountain Community College took first place with a 555 (279-276).
Freshman Caysen Wright won his first collegiate tournament as he claimed the top spot in the individual standings with a final two-round score of 136 (4-under par). He shot a 5-under par 65 in his first round and a 1-over 71 in the final round. He bested Kendall McCain from Eastern Arizona College and Dylan Kohner from South Mountain by 2-strokes.
Sophomore Luis Lopez (Sahuarita HS) finished tied for 11th place as he shot a 3-over par 143. He closed out the first round with a 2-over par 72 and shot a 1-over par 71 in Monday’s final round.
Freshman Gabe Herbst closed out the tournament with a 151 (75-76) while fellow freshman Colton Boone (Douglas HS) had a 4-stroke improvement between rounds, finished with a two-day total of 152 (78-74).
The Aztecs will compete in the Estrella Mountain CC Invitational on Mar. 9-10 at the Tres Rios Golf Course in Goodyear. Teams will begin to tee off at 10:00 a.m.
