(Tucson, AZ) The Tucson Sugar Skulls have re-signed QB Ramone Atkins for the 2024 season. He will return to Tucson for this second season with the team, and third season in the IFL.
Atkins led the Sugar Skulls to the third seed in the Western Conference in 2023. He played in all 16 games for the Sugar Skulls, completing 205 of his 315 pass attempts (65.0%) which was tied for 4th in the IFL.
In 2023, he totaled 37 touchdowns (11 interceptions) and accumulated 1,984 total passing yards. The dual-threat QB also ran for 691 rushing yards (5th in IFL) and 21 rushing touchdowns to go with his solid passing totals.
In 2022, he led the Duke Gladiators to the playoffs and earned All-Rookie accolades in addition to being named Offensive Rookie of the Year. In just 14 games in 2022, Atkins was fourth in the league with 2,169 passing yards and led the IFL in passing yards per game at 159.4. He finished tied for second in the league with 50 passing touchdowns and had just 10 interceptions on the season.
The 6’2″ quarterback played collegiately at New Mexico Highlands University.
