Tucson Re-Signs RB Mike Jones

(Tucson, AZ)  The Tucson Sugar Skulls have officially re-signed running back Mike Jones for the 2024 season. 

Jones enters his fifth season with the Sugar Skulls, making him the longest-tenured player on the team after joining during their inception in 2019.  

In 2023, Jones appeared in 15 games compiling 678 rushing yards in 177 attempts to go with 26 rushing touchdowns. He also hauled in 38 receptions for 274 yards, pushing his total yardage to 952 on the season. 

The veteran running back was honored on the All-IFL Second Team in 2022, finishing with 183 rushing attempts in his third IFL season for 718 yards (6th) for an average of 44.9 yards per game (5th) and 37 total rushing touchdowns (1st). 

Jones has been a steady presence of offense throughout the years for the Sugar Skulls. He has appeared in the playoffs in 3 of 4 seasons with the Skulls. After having dominated his rookie season with the Sugar Skulls, Jones was named the 2019 All-IFL First-Team selection at running back.

The Sarasota, FL native attended Bethune-Cookman University, where he led the team in rushing during his sophomore and senior years. Across a five-year career, including a redshirt season at BCU, Jones rushed for 1,842 yards and scored 21 touchdowns.
