(Gilbert, AZ) Park University Gilbert head women’s volleyball coach Stephanie Lindsey has announced the hiring of former NCAA Division I assistant coach Beau Lawler as her top assistant coach. Lawler brings a high level of experience and knowledge to the Buccaneer program.
Lawler most recently was an assistant coach at Blue Mountain Christian University in Blue Mountain, Miss. In his one season with the Toppers, they posted a 34-3 record overall and 19-1 in conference, reaching the NAIA national tournament where they fell in the first round to Mid America Nazarene in five sets. Lawler was named AVCA Region Assistant Coach of the Year and Southern States Conference Assistant Coach of the Year. Lawler oversaw the team offense, helping setter Anna Lucas achieve honorable mention All-America status. Lucas was also named the Southern States Conference Setter of the Year and she led the SSAC in assists per set and aces per set.
Prior to this Lawler was an assistant coach at the University of Mississippi in Oxnard, Miss., during the 2021 campaign. He oversaw recruiting, training and opponent scouting. Lawler helped mentor two first-team all-SEC selections, helped the team set 12 defensive records and the Rebels made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in a decade.
During the 2020-21 season, Lawler was the technical coordinator for perennial volleyball power University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb. He oversaw statistical and video analysis, scouting and game planning. The Huskers made the Elite 8 where they fell to No. 5 Texas.
Lawler also had coaching stints at Idaho State and the University of Utah. At ISU, he oversaw the training program, scouting and performance tracking. He oversaw middle blockers, liberos and team defense. He mentored Libero of the Year Haylie Keck who set the school record for digs in a single season.
At Utah, Lawler was the Director of Volleyball Operations and Technical Coordinator. He assisted the head coach with the program budget, the planning of the $500,000 team locker room and oversaw the booster club. He also assisted with recruiting and practice plans with the indoor and beach programs. In his three seasons in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Utes jumped from 10th-place to fourth in the Pac-12 and a NCAA Sweet 16 berth.
Lawler was also the president and CEO of Club V Sports from 2017-2019 in Salt Lake City where he oversaw all business operations, worked with vendors and maintained the daily operations of the club. He also was coached multiple teams through the club which saw seven teams qualify for USAC GJNC in 2018, including three teams in the Open Division. Fourteen players from the club went on to play in college.
Lawler has also been a coach, performance analyst and evaluator for USA Volleyball since 2016.
