Women Finish 2nd, Men 4th at Cal Pac Track and Field Championships

(Aliso Viejo, CA)  The Park University Gilbert men’s and women’s track teams completed competition at the California Pacific Conference Track and Field Championships at Soka University in Aliso Viejo, Calif. Behind a strong sprint group, the Buccaneer women finished in second place, while the men finished fourth.

Day one featured the distance runs and the Buccaneers only participated in the 4 x 800 meter races on the both the men’s and women’s side with the women finishing third and the men fourth.

Day two brought the sprints and field events with a couple of the remaining distance races mixed in. The Buccaneer women dominated the sprints along with the long jump taking the top three spots in the 100-meters as Zhanna Edwards (12.44), Jordyn Espinoza (12.92) and Jaiden Canady(13.11) finished 1-2-3. They also took the top four spots in the 200=meters as Edwards (26.17), Nardia Padilla (26.62), Canady (26.92) and Espinoza (27.28) controlled the event. Johanna Jessop and Padilla took the top two spots in the long jump with distances of 4.73 and 4.69 respectively.

The Buc women (Padilla, Edwards, Madison Turner and Mallory Turner) also won the 4 x 400-meter relay taking the top spot by over three seconds with a time of 4:15.10.

Maryan Sharif (4th), Madison Turner (6th) and Kenyah Reed (8th) all earned points for the Bucs in the 800-meter event and Padilla finished third on the 400-meter dash.

On the men’s side, Dylan Hukill (10.95) and Miles Howa (11.32) finished third and fifth in the 100 and Hukill (22.14) finished second in the 200.

In the 400-meters, Manuel Najera finished second in the 400-meters and 6th in the 800-meters. The Bucs 4 x 400 meter relay finished third.

In the field events, Sam Olney finished second in the long jump and Nicholas Fey won the shot put.

UC Merced won both the men’s and women’s events as ultimately their sheer numbers helped to give them points in events the Buccaneers did not. The Merced women had 145 points to 105 for Park Gilbert, three points ahead of Embry Riddle. The Merced men finished with 152 points with Embry Riddle in second with 105 points. Park Gilbert finished with 51.
