Max Krueger and Aztecs Men’s Golf lead after two rounds at Region I, Division I Championships

(Sun City West, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s golf team completed the first two rounds of play at the NJCAA Region I, Division I Championships on Thursday and Friday at the Corte Bella Golf Course in Sun City West, AZ.

The No. 9 ranked Aztecs hold first place with a two-round collective score of 594 (298-296). They lead Estrella Mountain Community College by 13-strokes (607-309-298) and Eastern Arizona College by 30-strokes (624-314-310) in the team standings.

Sophomore Max Krueger (Salpointe Catholic HS) shot a 1-over par 72 in Thursday’s first round and closed out Friday’s round with a 3-over par 74. He leads Jake Lydic from Estrella Mountain by 1-stroke in the individual standings as he has a collective two-day total of 147 (75-72).

Freshmen Daniel Aitken and Herman Holst are tied for third place each with a 149. Aitken bounced back in the second round as he posted a 9-stroke improvement after shooting a 1-under par 70 (79-70). Holst shot a 74 in the first round and finished the second with a 75.

Sophomore Jay Shero dropped in the individual standings to seventh place after he finished with a score of 79. He closed out the first round with a 2-over par 73 and has a score of 152 (73-79).

Sophomore Tommy Rosenvall sunk a hole-in-one on the 4th hole as he closed out his day with a 77.

The Aztecs continue play in the NJCAA Region I, Division I Championships on Saturday and Sunday for the final rounds at the Corte Bella Golf Course.
