Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in its final regular season meet of the season on Friday at the Mesa T-Bird Invitational.
Freshman distance runner Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) earned her third national qualifying time as she took first place in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 18 minutes, 44.76 seconds. Her finishing time was a personal record as well. Bruno has national qualifying times in the 1,500 meter and 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Sophomore sprinter Tyra Yanez (Sahuaro HS) took first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.34 seconds. She also finished second in the 200 meter dash at 25.37.
Sophomore jumper Megan Schiffmacher (Cactus HS) took first in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet, 4.25-inches). Freshman jumper Anahiramar Lopez (Tucson HS) placed second in the high jump (5-4.25) and in the long jump (17-4.75).
Sophomore thrower Alyssa Watkins (Camp Verde HS) finished in second place in the hammer throw with a mark of 149-feet, 1-inch (45.44 meters).
In men’s competition, sophomore sprinter Andy Trinh (Catalina HS) finished in first place after the 800 meter race with a time of 1:59.79.
Freshman jumper Cameron Crandall (Canyon del Oro HS) took second in the high jump at 6-feet, 8-inches (2.03 meters) and sophomore jumper Seth Jarus (Wickenburg HS) was second in the triple jump with a leap of 45-feet, 8.50-inches (13.93 meters).
The Aztecs will compete at the NJCAA Region I Championships on Tuesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 3 held at Mesa Community College. Competition begins at 5:00 p.m. on both days.
