Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s tennis team (1-3) were shut out in its ACCAC conference match on Thursday at Mesa Community College.
The Aztecs lost 9-0 to the No. 12 ranked Thunderbirds.
Freshmen Tomothy Ou and Scott Mantelman played tough singles matches that went to three-set tie-breakers.
Ou took the first set against Jorge Sala Frigeri but dropped the next two sets as he fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Mantelman also took the first set in his match but couldn’t put away Artur Etzberger at No. 3 singles as he fell 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.
Sophomore Francisco Sotelo (Cholla HS) dropped his match at No. 2 singles to Gergo Rendek 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Chris McDaniels (Tanque Verde HS) lost to Yohann Prinsen 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Freshmen Johnathan Wu and Beau Boyer (Cibola HS) were shut out 6-0, 6-0 in their No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches respectively.
Ou and Mantelman fell to Rendek and Jeffery Martin 8-5 in their No. 1 doubles match. Sotelo and Wu were dropped by Sala Frigeri and Prinsen 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles duo of McDaniels and Boyer lost to Lucas Severo and Erik Dallmann 8-2.
The Aztecs play their final regular season home match on Thursday against Glendale Community College at the West Campus Tennis Courts. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
