Aztecs softball overwhelmed against Yavapai College

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College softball team (29-13, 20-12 in ACCAC) could not stop Yavapai College’s offensive onslaught on Tuesday at the West Campus Softball Field.

The Aztecs managed one run for the game as the No. 18 Roughriders (32-9, 24-6) scored 27 runs for the day.

Game 1: (18) Yavapai College Roughriders 10, Pima CC Aztecs 1 (5 innings): The Aztecs fell into an early hole after the 1st inning and Yavapai poured it on with five runs in the 4th inning.

Freshman Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) led off the 2nd inning with a double. She scored two batters later when freshman Sarrah Jones hit an RBI single. The Aztecs finished the game with nine hits.
Jones went 1 for 2 with an RBI while Caldera finished 2 for 2 with a run scored. Freshman Alese Casper was 3 for 3 with a triple while freshman Mya Cabral (Pueblo HS) finished 2 for 3.

Sophomore Sierra Gentry took the loss (5-2) as she pitched one inning giving up three runs (three earned) on one hit with two strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: (18) Yavapai College 17, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (5 innings): The Roughrider offense took over again as it scored three runs in the 1st inning and nine runs in the 3rd inning.

The Aztecs managed three hits for the game. Sophomore Alyssa Smith (Winslow HS) went 1 for 2 while Gentry and freshman Mackenzie Judge (Ironwood Ridge HS) were each 1 for 1.

Freshman Paige Adair took the loss (17-5) as she pitched two and one-third innings giving up seven runs (seven earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Softball Field on Saturday when they host GateWay Community College in an ACCAC doubleheader. First pitch is at noon.
