A Tucson Roadrunners hockey player who has been hospitalized since collapsing on the ice before a game in November will likely be home before Christmas, according to the hospital.
Craig Cunningham, 26, collapsed before the game at the Tucson Convention Center on Nov. 19 and medics began life-saving efforts immediately before he was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.
According to a news release from Banner-UMC, Cunningham was transferred to Banner-University Medical Center when it was determined he needed the advanced therapy using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, which is a procedure that uses a pump to circulate blood through tubes supporting heart function and through an “oxygenator” that functions as an artificial lung.
Cunningham is scheduled to hold a news briefing with his mother and the doctors responsible for his care on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Tucson News Now will be at the news conference to bring you the latest update on Cunningham’s condition.
