Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (21-6, 15-4 in ACCAC) closed out the week on a strong note as it used a big run in the first half and a dominant fourth quarter to beat Phoenix College (13-14, 8-11) on Saturday at the West Campus Gymnasium.
The No. 8 ranked Aztecs beat the Bears 92-55 after outscoring them 33-11 for the final quarter.
Tied at 12-12, the Aztecs went on a 15-2 run that carried between the first and second quarters to take a 27-14 advantage. They held the Bears to just nine points in the second quarter to take a 34-21 at halftime.
Freshman Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) matched her season-high with 34 points as she went 12 for 17 from the field and 3 for 6 from three-point range. She also had six rebounds, seven assists and one steal.
Sophomore Aubre Fortner finished with 15 points and seven rebounds on 4 for 8 shooting while freshman Shauna Bribiescas (Dobson HS) had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Christine Ortega (Flowing Wells HS) had 10 rebounds at halftime and finished with nine points and 14 boards. Sophomore Reazsha Benjamin (Sahuaro HS) was a spark off the bench as she had seven points and six rebounds.
The Aztecs earned a regular season sweep over the Bears. The Aztecs won 76-45 last month in Phoenix.
The Aztecs will be back on the road on Wednesday when they play at Central Arizona College at 5:30 p.m.
