Pueblo’s big second half earns them a semifinal appearance

It was not unexpected for the Pueblo women’s basketball team to make it to the playoffs this season. Though with a few tough injuries from some key players, the girls knew they were going to have to put up a fight to get to the state championship.

In tonight’s game, the Warriors went up against the Cactus High School Cobras. It was a packed crowd of Warrior and Cobra fans ready to see their team win.

The game began with both sides making shots they needed to, and a lot of defense. Throughout the first half of the game it seemed like both teams were playing to keep the other team from putting up baskets instead of trying to get baskets for themselves.

The Warriors picked up the pace on the offensive end late in the second quarter. It did not help them as you could see fans, players, and coaches getting quite frustrated with the officials over some missed and or unnecessary calls.

The first half ended with a significant lead- Pueblo up by a score of 34-21. With the second half underway, you could see Pueblo was determined to seal their win.

Cactus, however, was determined to not let that happen. The pressure was on when the Cobras were able to cut the Warrior’s lead from 15 to 5. Cactus’ girls were making all shots needed, and preventing Pueblo from making the shots they needed.

The Warriors Jasmine Belt was their second half hero along with teammate Summer Fox. The two combined for over twenty points and five blocks.

With the pressure on them, the Warriors rallied to keep their fifteen point lead steady. Cactus fought hard to cut the Warrior’s lead, but at the end of the day Pueblo remained dominant and winner.

FINAL: 62-45
