(Glendale, AZ)  The Pima Community College volleyball team hit the road for its Region I, Division II Semifinals match on Wednesday at Glendale Community College (14-6).

The No. 3 seeded Aztecs won the first set but dropped the next three games as they fell to the No. 2 Gauchos in four sets (22-25, 25-14, 25-13, 25-21).

Sophomore Alexia Hutchens (Salpointe Catholic HS) closed out the match with eight kills and two blocks while freshman Skylar Westburg finished with six kills.

Freshman Victoria Page added five kills while fellow freshman Amaris Biancuzzo (Mica Mountain HS) had five kills and two aces.

Freshman Leah Stoneking (Catalina Foothills HS) finished with nine digs and two aces, and freshman Estelle Fetsis (Pusch Ridge Christian) posted eight digs.

“Obviously it hurts when things end before you want them to, but this season has been a real joy for this whole team,” Pima volleyball coach Dan Bithell said. “We worked hard to be great teammates every day, and I know we all can feel good that we did build a special team this year.

“Glendale is a tough team and they had a good game plan against us. We’ve played some amazing volleyball at times against them this season, but unfortunately they made it pretty tough on us and we didn’t respond with our best.
“I am proud of our efforts all season though, and I am proud of the things we were able to accomplish.”

The Aztecs finished the season at 15-9 overall and 8-4 in ACCAC conference play. They improved from last season’s 10-14 record (6-6 in ACCAC). This was their fourth straight trip to the Region I, Division II Tournament and eighth in the last nine years. They produced a strong 8-2 record at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium and look to return a strong sophomore class in 2027. They had four sophomores on this year’s squad
