(Mesa, AZ) The Park University Gilbert volleyball team (3-3, 1-1) defeated the Lake Forest College Foresters (0-2, 0-0) by a score of 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
The Buccaneers picked up their second-straight win and moved to .500 in overall play with a 2-1 record at home. Park-Gilbert took three out of four sets against the Foresters in the first ever matchup between these programs (25-13, 26-24, 21-25, 25-20).
The Bucs were led on offense by senior outside hitter Keep Williams, who logged a career-high 15 kills on 41 total attacks.
Park-Gilbert won the opening set by 12 points, setting the tone for the match. The Buccaneers held a 16-6 lead halfway the frame and closed it out winning nine of the next 16 points.
Set No. 2 proved to be more competitive, with neither team holding more than a four-point lead at any part of the period. Park edged the Foresters 26-24 to take a 2-0 lead in the contest.
Lake Forest responded in the third with a four-point win, claiming the set 25-21. As Park-Gilbert stared down a potential third straight five-set match, the Bucs came out of the gates swinging as they claimed an early 10-0 lead in the fourth set. LFC chipped away at its deficit, cutting Park’s double-digit lead down to five halfway through the frame. But the Bucs held on, taking the decisive set by a score of 25-21.
Bucs junior transfer Alyssa Winfield logged season-highs in kills (11) and digs (14), marking her first double-double of the season. Setter Adrianna DeMario recorded her second 40+ assist game of the season with 43 assists Saturday afternoon.
Porsche Bauer had 17 digs to lead the team defensively, while Lainey Calvary made an impact at the net with six blocks. On offense, Calvary recorded 10 kills and a .200 attack percentage.

The Buccaneers hit the road for California next week, as Park-Gilbert returns to the court this Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. MST for a non-conference tilt against the Caltech Beavers (1-0, 0-0). This contest will be played in Pasadena, California.
