(Glendale, AZ) Chalk up one more honor in an outstanding year for rookie
defensive back Yahsyn McKee Sr.
McKee was named the IFL’s Defensive Player of the Year to go with a collection of honors in his first season in the league. The 6-foot, 180-pound rookie out of the University of Miami, Ohio, swept each defensive award he was eligible for − All-Rookie team, First Team All-IFL, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and now the top defensive player.
McKee helped the Rattlers lead the league in defense and collected 12 of the team’s league-leading 30 interceptions, nine more than the next team in that category. McKee’s total of 12 interceptions is twice as many as the next league competitor. He also is the Rattlers’ team leader in tackles with 76 headed into Sunday’s national championship game against Green Bay.
McKee is the third Rattler to be named Defensive Player of the Year since the team joined the IFL in 2017. He joins current teammate Davontae Merriweather and current Rattlers defensive backs coach Dillion Winfrey in winning the award representing the Rattlers.
