(Spartanburg, SC) The Pima Community College softball team (47-9) opened play in the NJCAA Division II World Series on Wednesday at the Tyger River Park in Spartanburg, SC.
The No. 8 seeded Aztecs struggled on offense in their 6-0 loss to No. 9 Des Moines Area Community College (IA). The Aztecs move to the consolation bracket.

L – Camacho (16-3).
The Bears (55-10) won their 21st straight game as they got on the board in the 3rd inning with Mackenzie Mohler’s solo home run that sailed over the left field fence.
Des Moines’ Erin Ades hit a two-run RBI single up the middle to make it 3-0 as sophomore Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) was replaced by freshman Adriana Machado (Canyon del Oro HS).
Aden had another two-run RBI hit as part of a three-run 6th inning.Freshman Isabel Mendoza (Cienega HS) recorded Pima’s first hit to lead off the 3rd inning. She also singled in the 5th inning with two outs but couldn’t advance.
Freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) and sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) had back-to-back hits with one out in the 6th inning, but a fly out to center field by sophomore Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) and a strikeout by sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) ended the threat.
The Aztecs finished with four hits as Mendoza went 2-for-2 with a walk and Rodriguez and Figueroa each went 1-for-3. Pima hitters three through six in the lineup went a combined 0-for-12 with six strikeouts.
Camacho took the loss in the circle as she pitched four and two-third innings, giving up three runs (three earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks on 97 pitches. Machado pitched in relief and went two and two-third innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk on 59 pitches.
Andes was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Mohler was 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored. Kierra Jungers got the win for the Bears after pitching a complete-game shutout, giving up four hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk on 97 pitches.
The Aztecs will play No. 13 Northwest Mississippi Community College (29-20) in an elimination game on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. (ET); 6:00 a.m. (MST). Catch the action on the NJCAA Network.
