(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball team (22-21, 14-16 in ACCAC) was back in action at the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday against Glendale Community College (25-19, 14-14).
The Aztecs played in their eighth ACCAC conference split this season as they went 1-1 against the Gauchos. Freshman Adriel Figueroa-Brito closed out the day going 4-for-7 with two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman Cooper Kruk (Catalina Foothills HS) and sophomore Jackson Glueck each homered on the day.
Freshman Braxton Bjur (Verrado HS) took the loss and sophomore Quintin Hennesy (Horizon HS) picked up a win on the mound.
Game 1: Glendale Gauchos 5, Pima Aztecs 3
The Aztecs rallied and cut into the deficit but couldn’t overtake the lead in their loss to Glendale.
Trailing 2-0, the Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning. Figueroa-Brito hit an RBI double to score freshman Juan Hernandez (Tucson Magnet HS).
The Gauchos scored two runs in the 4th inning but Kruk led off the bottom-half of the inning with a home run to center field on the first pitch as Pima trailed 4-2.
Figueroa-Brito hit his second RBI double of the game in the 5th inning, bringing around sophomore Leon Cereceres to put the score at 4-3. The Gauchos tacked on a run in the 6th inning. The Aztecs stranded four runners on base.
Figueroa-Brito finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Kruk went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Hernandez was 1-for-3 with a run.
Bjur took the loss as he pitched five and one-third innings, giving up four runs (four earned) on nine hits with one strikeout and one walk on 98 pitches.

- Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 6, Glendale CC Gauchos 2: The Aztecs took the lead with four runs in the 6thinning as Hennesy produced another quality start.
Figueroa-Brito and Glueck hit back-to-back singles to lead off the 6th inning. Freshman Damian Lorta (Desert View HS) knocked in Figueroa-Brito with his RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Sophomore Matt MacDonald followed with his RBI double to drive in Glueck. Two batters later, freshman Ezra Vidal (Sahuarita HS) hit an RBI single to left field, which scored Lorta and MacDonald putting the Aztecs up 5-2.
Glueck hit a solo homer in the 1st inning and had an RBI double in the 7th inning to finish 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. MacDonald was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run while Figueroa-Brito went 2-for-4 with a run. Lorta finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Vidal closed it out going 1-for-1 with two RBIs.
Hennesy improved to 3-0 on the season after he pitched six innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks on 84 pitches.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Field next Tuesday, April 7 when they take on South Mountain Community College in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. First game starts at 12:00 p.m.
