Aztecs Baseball manages two hits in loss to Paradise Valley CCN

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (23-24, 15-19 in ACCAC) struggled on offense in its ACCAC conference game against Paradise Valley Community College (22-28, 14-20) on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Field.

The Aztecs managed just two hits on the day as they fell to the Pumas 5-1.

The Pumas struck in the top of the 1st inning as they scored four runs. The Aztecs countered in the bottom-half of the inning. Sophomore Leon Cereceres hit a lead-off single and advanced to second base on an error. He got moved over to third base after freshman Adriel Figueroa-Brito’s groundout. Cereceres scored on sophomore Jackson Glueck’s sacrifice-fly RBI to center field.

The Aztecs tried to continue the rally in the 3rd inning. Cereceres got on base again after getting hit by a pitch with two outs. Figueroa-Brito hit a single and Cereceres tried legging it to home plate but was tagged out to end the inning.

The last 18 batters were retired for the Aztecs as batters four through nine in the lineup went 0-for-18 for the game.

Cereceres finished 1-for-3 with a run scored while Figueroa-Brito went 1-for-4. Glueck closed it out, going 0-for-2 with an RBI.

Freshman Braxton Bjur (Verrado HS) took the loss as he pitched five innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts and one walk on 94 pitches. Freshman Hayden Green (Sabino HS) pitched the final four innings, giving up two hits with six strikeouts on 71 pitches.

The Aztecs hit the road for an ACCAC conference game on Wednesday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
