(Scottsdale, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball team (25-25, 17-20 in ACCAC) dropped a tough one on the road at Scottsdale Community College (29-22, 21-16) on Saturday in an ACCAC conference game.
The Aztecs took the lead in the 3rd inning, but the Artichokes rallied with two runs in the bottom of the 8thinning as Pima fell 2-1.
Sophomore Mike Jones had a lead-off walk and advanced to second base on a passed ball. Freshman Aciel Guillen (Salpointe Catholic HS) grounded out to move him to third base. Sophomore Ramon Martinez sent a shot up the middle to bring in Jones to put the Aztecs on the board.
Sophomore Matt MacDonald drew a lead-off walk to start off the 5th inning. With one out, Guillen singled to left field. Martinez laid down a bunt, but MacDonald was called out at home plate. Sophomore Leon Cereceres groundout out to end the threat.
The Aztecs went down in order in the 9th. Freshman Cooper Kruk (Catalina Foothills HS) added some excitement as he drove a shot to left field, but Scottsdale’s Logan Spetz made the play at the wall to end the game.
The Aztecs had two hits and two walks for the game. Martinez finished 1-for-3 with an RBI while Guillen went 1-for-3. Jones was 0-for-2 with a run scored.
Sophomore Quintin Hennesy (Horizon HS) took the loss as he pitched three innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks on 54 pitches. Freshman Hayden Green (Sabino HS) started the game and threw five shutout innings, giving up two hits with five strikeouts and three walks on 91 pitches.

The Aztecs have two of their final three regular season games at the West Campus Aztec Field. They will host Phoenix College on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
