(Aliso Viejo, CA)  The Great Southwest Athletic Conference announced its winners for various player of the week awards Monday afternoon, tabbing Park University Gilbert’s own Mady Lackey as the GSAC Softball Player of the Week presented by Athletic Solutions.

Lackey, the utility player commonly in right field and at second base, was a key piece to Park-Gilbert’s 6-0 stint last week when the Buccaneers hosted Westcliff University and La Sierra University.

The graduate student from Spanish Fork, Utah, batted .600 on the week, hit her first three home runs of the season, and drove in nine runs. Lackey posted a .684 on-base percentage and a 1.267 slugging percentage during this stretch.

Her impressive week on the field was capped off with a walk off single in Game 4 against La Sierra that secured Park-Gilbert’s GSAC series sweep, extending the Bucs’ winning streak to eight games.

In Game 2 of the non-conference doubleheader against Westcliff on Wednesday, Lackey homered to center field which drove in two runs. This played a part in Park-Gilbert’s 10-0 win that saw the run rule applied after five innings.

Mady and the Bucs kept that momentum into the four-game series against La Sierra last Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, Lackey scored three runs and drove in two as she batted .500 at the plate.

In the first game of the Friday doubleheader against LSU, Lackey went 2-2 at the plate with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth.

After Lackey hit another two-run homer that afternoon, making the score 3-2 La Sierra in Friday’s Game 2, the Bucs found themselves down four runs with 1.5 innings remaining. Park then scored five unanswered runs and secured its first GSAC series win of the season, after Lackey walked the Bucs off in the bottom of the seventh.

On the year, Lackey is currently batting .333 with three home runs, 15 RBIs, a .400 on-base percentage and a .544 slugging percentage.

Lackey and the Buccaneers return to the field next Tuesday, April 7, when they hit the road to face the Nelson University Arizona Warriors at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix, Arizona.
