Aztecs Women’s Basketball uses a 39-0 run to beat South Mountain CC for its 10th straight win

(Phoenix, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (22-4, 14-2 in ACCAC) picked up its 10th straight win on Wednesday as it played an ACCAC conference game at South Mountain Community College (3-19, 0-16).

The No. 10 ranked Aztecs defeated the Cougars 93-18 as they opened the game on a 20-2 run and led 46-13 at halftime.

The teams traded baskets to open the third quarter as the Cougars scored with 8:58 left in the quarter, but went scoreless for just under 17 minutes as the Aztecs turned it into a 39-0 run. The Aztecs gave up just five points to the Cougars in the second half.

Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller (Dream City Christian) finished with a team-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds and six blocks.

Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) flirted with a quadruple double as she posted 16 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and seven steals.

Freshman Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds as she shot 6-for-9 from the field.

Freshman Kahlia Gonzales (Mesquite HS) added 12 points, six assists and six steals while fellow freshman Reigne Waugh had 10 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Sophomore Lucy Land contributed with two points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Teagan Martin (Flagstaff HS) had four points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Aztecs finished the game with 71 total rebounds (38 offensive), 33 steals and 31 assists.

The Aztecs have two more home games left on the regular season schedule. They will host Glendale Community College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
