(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (13-4, 5-2 in ACCAC) picked up a big ACCAC conference victory on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

The No. 12 ranked Aztecs defeated No. 23 Scottsdale Community College 72-55 avenging a loss to the Artichokes earlier this season (67-61 on Dec. 17 at Scottsdale CC).

The Aztecs clinged to a 35-33 lead with 5:14 left in the third quarter but went on a 7-0 run to create some breathing room. Sophomore Ahdiayh Chee (Dobson HS) hit a three-pointer to give Pima a double-digit lead at 45-36.

The Artichokes (10-6, 4-3) cut it to 49-44, but the Aztecs countered with a 10-0 run (59-44) that went into the early minutes of the fourth quarter. Scottsdale made it 59-48 but the Aztecs maintained their double-digit advantage throughout the final quarter. Pima’s biggest lead was at 72-53 with 1:24 left after sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller’s (Dream City Christian) basket.

The game featured two ties and six lead changes that all occurred in the first half.

Sours-Miller posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. She went 9 for 11 from the field and posted four blocks.

Freshman Reigne Waugh was difficult to contain on the glass as she also posted a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds (seven offensive).

Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) closed out the game with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block while fellow sophomore Lucy Land added 10 points off the bench. She was 4 for 5 shooting and 2 for 2 from beyond the arc.

Freshman Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) had eight points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists and freshman Kahlia Gonzales (Mesquite HS) contributed with six points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Aztecs shot 45 percent (27-for-60) from the field and 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from beyond the arc. Pima was also 75 percent (12-for-16) from the free throw line.

The Aztecs will play their sixth straight home game on Saturday when they host Phoenix College at the Aztec Gymnasium. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
