Amerika Lopez-Bedoy has six RBIs as Softball takes two from El Paso CC to open four-game series

(El Paso, TX)  The Pima Community College softball team (3-0) opened its four-game series at El Paso Community College on Friday.

The No. 6 ranked Aztecs earned a run-rule victory in the first game, but it took extra innings to close out the second game. Sophomore Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) finished the day going 5 for 8 with six RBIs, a run scored and two doubles. Freshman Alyssa Aguirre (Sabino HS) was 5 for 9 with an RBI and four runs scored. Sophomore J’Kaia Graves (Shadow Ridge HS) finished 3 for 7 with an RBI and four runs and sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) went 3 for 8 with two RBIs and four runs. Sophomores Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) and Sariah Ferrentino (Sabino HS) picked up the wins in the circle.

Game 1: (6) Pima Aztecs 11, El Paso Tejanas 3 (5 innings)

The Aztecs led 2-1 but scored nine runs over the next three innings to earn the run-rule win.
Freshman Tayah Lyons hit an RBI single to center field to score Figueroa, who drew a lead-off walk to open the 3rdinning. Lopez-Bedoy advanced on the basepaths and scored on a passed ball to make it 4-1. Freshman Kayla Hendrix (Canyon del Oro HS) capped the inning with an RBI single to plate Lyons as Pima went up 5-1.
The Aztecs scored two runs in the 4th inning. Lopez-Bedoy hit a two -run RBI single to bring in Graves and Aguirre to make it 7-1.
Freshman Isabel Mendoza (Cienega HS) singled to start off the 5th inning and Hendrix followed with a home run to left field. Graves and Figueroa scored the other two runs in the inning.
Lopez-Bedoy hit an RBI single in the 5th and finished the game 3 for 3 with four RBIs and a run. Hendrix went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run while Graves was 2 for 3 with three runs and two stolen bases. Aguirre finished the game 1 for 4 with an RBI, two runs and a steal.
Camacho picked up the win after she pitched all five innings, giving up three runs (three earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and four walks on 70 pitches.

Game 2: (6) Pima Aztecs 7, El Paso Tejanas 5 (8 innings)

The Aztecs scored two runs in the top of the 8th inning and the Tejanas left the bases loaded in the bottom-half of the inning to close it out.
Figueroa hit an RBI double on a 3-1 count to score Aguirre, who had a one-out single in the previous at-bat. Lopez-Bedoy didn’t waste any time as she drove an RBI double to center field on the first pitch she saw bringing in Figueroa.
Ferrentino gave up three straight singles with no outs to the Tejanas in the 8th inning, but got two fielder’s choice plays that went to home plate for the outs. Then she got a flyout to end the game.
The Aztecs got on the board in the 3rd inning when Figueroa hit an RBI single to score Graves. Lopez-Bedoy grounded out but her play scored Aguirre to make it 2-0.
The Tejanas took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but the Aztecs responded when Graves hit an RBI double to score Mendoza, which tied it at 3-3.
The Aztecs took the lead back with two runs in the 5th inning. Mendoza grounded out to second base, but Figueroa was able to score to give Pima the lead once again. Lyons followed with an RBI single to left field to score pinch runner Angelina Dehler (Empire HS). El Paso CC tied the game with two runs in the 6th inning to force an extra frame.
Aguirre was 4 for 5 with two runs scored while Figueroa went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs. Lopez-Bedoy was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and two doubles. Graves finished 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run and Lyons was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Ferrentino got the win as she pitched eight innings, giving up five runs (five earned) on 13 hits with six strikeouts and four walks on 135 pitches.

The Aztecs will play two more at El Paso Community College on Saturday. Game times are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
