(Port Huron, MI) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (2-1) opened play in the SC4 Thumbcoast Tip-Off Tournament on Thursday hosted by St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron, MI.
The No. 4 ranked Aztecs defeated Jackson College 87-63 after outscoring them 50-29 in the second half.
The Aztecs trailed 16-15 after the first quarter and took a 37-34 lead at halftime.
Freshman Lucy Fisher (Mesquite HS) scored a team-high 19 points after she finished 5 for 6 from the field and 9 for 9 from the free throw line. She also grabbed nine rebounds.
Freshman Reigne Waugh closed out the game with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds as she dominated the offensive glass with 10 boards.
Sophomore Lucy Land scored in double figures off the bench as she added 15 points and five rebounds. She went 7 for 10 from the field.
Sophomore Kiley Sours-Miller (Dream City HS) contributed with 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
Sophomore Melicia Nelson (Window Rock HS) flirted with a triple-double as she finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
The Aztecs shot 37.5 percent and went 31 for 38 (81.6 percent) from the free throw line. The Aztecs also out-rebounded the Jets 63-27 and the defense came up with 13 steals.
The Aztecs will play No. 7 ranked Illinois Central College on Friday at 5:00 p.m. (EST); 3:00 p.m. Tucson time.
