Algodoneros Win with Ninth Inning Rally

(Guasave, Sinaloa)  A six-run rally in the ninth inning gave the Algodoneros de Guasave the victory in a game that remained close for eight innings.

Algodoneros scored first in the top of the second inning with a single by Jorge Flores that drove in his teammate Orlando Piña with the game’s first run.

At the start of the third inning, Drew Avans scored the second run of the game on a fielder’s choice, with left fielder Phillip Ervin reaching first safely.

In the fifth inning, Tucson took the lead, capitalizing on the bullpen’s wildness, which issued four walks in the inning.

River Town scored the first run when Gaige Howard drew a bases-loaded walk, followed by Alexis Wilson’s bases-loaded single, driving in Jesús Fabela and Agustín Ruiz to give Tucson a 3-2 lead.

Algodoneros responded in the top of the sixth inning with Jorge Flores scoring on a single by Leo Heras, tying the game at 3 runs apiece.

Tucson took the lead again in the bottom of the sixth when Norman Elenes hit Agustín Ruiz with a pitch, scoring Edgar Lugo, who was on third base.

In the top of the seventh, Guasave tied the game again, this time at 4 runs apiece, with Phillip Ervin scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field by Orlando Piña. In the top of the ninth, the Sinaloa squad attacked Tucson’s pitching with a powerful 6-run rally, putting the game on ice at 10- 4 and securing the victory, tying the series in Sinaloa.

Garret Alexander took the loss, while the win went to Colombian Luis Moreno.
