#2 Men’s Swimming claims CSCAA dual meet championship crown

(Knoxville, TN)  No. 2 Sun Devil Men’s Swimming was crowned champions of the inaugural CSCAA Dual Meet Challenge, defeating No. 9 Tennessee, 39-17, Sunday afternoon at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Centre. No. 18 Sun Devil Women’s Swimming won three events but fell to the No. 8 Lady Volunteers, 35-21.

The men won seven individual crowns – including both relays – to carry them to victory over the Volunteers, beating them for the second-consecutive dual of the weekend. Junior Ilya Kharun set the school record in the 100 fly in a swift 43.38, which was a personal best.

Graduate Remi Fabiani achieved a pair of personal best times in the 200 free (1:31.23) and the 100 free (41.10), leading to two event wins. Sophomore Lucien Vergnes won the 100 back in 45.84 and senior breaststroker Andy Dobrzanski had two wins in the 200 breast (1:52.39) and the 100 breast (51.14).

Closing out the meet, junior JT Ewing won the 200 back in 1:39.00 and freshman Mattia Mauri had a runner-up finish in the 500 free with a 4:20.10. The men’s 200 medley relay nearly tied the school record, touching the wall at 1:20.56 and being one-one-hundredth of a second off the mark. The men’s 200 free relay team won in 1:13.72, which is the second-fastest time in school history.

The women’s 200 medley relay gave the Sun Devils a strong start, finishing in 1:37.01 for the first win of the morning. Junior Miriam Sheehan had a strong showing in the 100 back with a first-place finish of 52.55 for the win.

Sophomore Julia Ullmann won the 100 fly in 52.27 and followed up her performance with a second-place finish in 1:57.97 in the 200 fly. Senior Sonia Vaishnani had a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:12.10) and the 200 IM (1:59.25).

Select team members will compete at the U.S. Open Swimming Championships in Austin, Texas, set for December 3-6. The Sun Devils will continue their regular season at Mona Plummer Aquatic Centre, hosting GCU on January 3, 2026, at 12 p.m. MST.
