With Authority , Tucson Wins at the Border

(Mexicali, BC)  Tucson takes the first game on the border 8 to 1

over the Águilas de Mexicali Knights and returns to the winning path.

The winning run came in the fourth inning for the Tucson team, who, with a double by Ramón

Mendoza, sent teammates José Carlos Ureña and Bobby Bradley to the plate.

Mexicali closed the gap by scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, with Yadir Drake

scoring on a sacrifice fly by Estevan Florial.

The big threat emerged in the top of the eighth inning, with Tucson scoring four runs for

themselves, giving the score a wide margin of 6-1 over Águilas de Mexicali.

José Carlos Ureña produced the first with a single to left, scoring Jesús Fabela. The second

came on a Ramón Mendoza single to center field, scoring on the play by Gaige Howard and

on a throwing error by catcher Juan López. José Carlos Ureña also scored for Tucson.

Mendoza scored the fourth for the Southern Arizona team on a single by Missael Rivera.

In the final inning, Jesús “Chuyito” Fabela hit his first home run of the season, taking out

teammate Samar Leyva, making the score 8-1 and putting the game on ice.

Erick Preciado came out for Tucson in the ninth to retire the final inning, and despite getting

into trouble, he managed to fight back and get all three outs without allowing a run.

The victory went to starter Daniel de la Fuente, who pitched five complete innings with five

strikeouts and three walks without allowing a run, leaving his ERA at a very low 1.74.

The loser was David Reyes who lasted 7 complete games allowing 2 runs with 3 strikeouts

and 1 walk.
