(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert men’s soccer team (4-4-3, 3-1-2) defeated The Master’s University Mustangs (4-5-1, 3-3) by a score of 1-0, Thursday night at Arizona Athletic Grounds.

The Buccaneers secured their second straight win, once again achieved in thrilling fashion.

Last Sunday, a second goal from sophomore forward Caden Dosmann in the 83rd minute capped off a 3-2 victory over La Sierra University. Tonight, it was senior midfielder Ryan Masterson playing hero in the 86thminute to break the stalemate.

The first ¾ of this contest turned out to be a defensive struggle, with both teams totaling eight shots in the first half.

After 85 minutes of scoreless soccer, Masterson netted his second goal of the season off a pass from senior midfielder Ryan Lea. Lea, who has logged the most minutes of any Buccaneer this season, recorded his first assist in two seasons with Park-Gilbert.

In goal for the Bucs was Zac Stephenson, who picked up his first shutout of the season with three saves. The senior from Newcastle, England, now moves to 2-1 in three starts.

Park-Gilbert outshot The Master’s 10-5, with the Bucs taking five shots in each half. Both teams combined for 15 fouls and a pair of yellow cards.

The Bucs now move to 2-1 all-time against TMU, as Park-Gilbert currently sits in fifth place of the Great Southwest Athletic Conference standings.

The Buccaneers return to the pitch this Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. MST, when they host the Soka University of America Lions (4-4-1, 4-2) at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix, Arizona.
