Ava Dagnino scores two goals, Kendra Veliz earns 300th win as Women’s Soccer upsets No. 8 Scottsdale CC

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (10-1-5, 10-0-3 in ACCAC) secured a double digit win total for the season on Tuesday as it hosted Scottsdale Community College (10-2-1, 9-2-1).

The No. 13 ranked Aztecs upset the No. 8 Artichokes 2-1 as Pima’s win gave head coach Kendra Veliz her 300th career victory (300-125-35 in 24 seasons).

Freshman Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored another two goals, bringing her total to 13 on the season. She has scored in five straight games. Dagnino drove in a goal in the 18th minute that was assisted by Krystal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS). Dagnino made it 2-0 in the early minutes of the second half as she scored with an assist from freshman Gabri Mendoza (Tucson Magnet HS) in the 48th minute.

The Artichokes got on the board in the 54th minute after a goal by Samantha Battles.

Sophomore Brooke Valencia (Sabino HS) was a force protecting the net as she finished with a career-high 13 saves. The Artichokes outshot the Aztecs 14-6 for the game.

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Saturday when they play at Mesa Community College. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
