(Irving, TX)  Sun Devil Football punter Kanyon Floyd was rewarded for an excellent performance on Saturday.

In Arizona State’s season-opening win over NAU, Floyd’s kicking made a major impact. For his efforts, he received Co-Special Team Player of the Week honors, sharing the distinction with Iowa State kicker Kyle Konrardy.

In the Kenny Dillingham era, a Sun Devil has now won a conference player of the week award 17 times. ASU led the Big 12 and was third nationally with 12 conference player of the week selections last season. It was four more than the second-highest team in the league (Colorado). They are off to a strong start this year with Floyd earning his first career honor after week one. He is the first Sun Devil to win Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week since current sophomore linebacker Martell Hughes blocked a punt and went on to receive the distinction on Nov. 11 last year following the UCF win.

  • Floyd averaged 48.5 yards per attempt, the most among any Big 12 punter with multiple attempts.
  • It was 18th best average among all FBS punters with three or more punts.
  • Floyd’s career-long 58-yard punt when the Sun Devils were pinned deep in their own territory was tied for the 17th-longest by a FBS punter and tied for the longest by any Big 12 punter this week.
  • He also took over kickoff duties after a long return midway through the game and eliminated the kick return threat.
  • His four kickoffs averaged 64.5 yards with no returns past the 25-yard line and a pair of touchbacks.

Arizona State had the third-most Conference Player of the Week selections of any Power 4 school in 2024. The two school ahead of them, Pittsburgh and Miami, were in the ACC which awards nine player of the week distinctions compared to four given out by the other three Power 4 leagues last year. This means Arizona State had the most Conference Player of the Week winners of any Big 12, Big Ten, or SEC program.
