(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (6-1) earned its third straight shutout victory on Thursday as it hosted Community Christian College (0-5) in a non-conference game at the West Campus Aztec Field.
The No. 7 ranked Aztecs scored six goals in the first half and went on to beat the Saints 9-0. It was Pima’s fourth straight victory.
Freshman Alek Peral (Nogales HS) set a new program-record with a double hat-trick (six goals). He surpassed Jason Romero’s single game record of four goals in a game back on Oct. 23, 2015.
Peral established himself early with a goal in the 7th minute. He scored back-to-back goals in the 24th and 30thminutes to make it 5-0. Peral scored all three goals for the Aztecs in the second half.
Sophomore Sebastian Barrios (Sunnyside HS) scored two goals in the 13th and 37th minutes. Both goals were assisted by Diegoctavio Garcia Yanez (Salpointe Catholic HS).
Sophomore Isaac Garcia-Quinteros (Thunderbird HS) scored a goal and also had two assists on Peral’s goals.
The Aztecs finished with 17 shots on goal as the defense held the Saints to no shots on goal for the game. Freshmen goalkeepers Tommaso Leonardi and Andrew Ellison (Buena HS) each played a half.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host Paradise Valley Community College in an ACCAC conference game. The teams are on the pitch at 8:00 p.m.
