(Pittsburg, PA) Closing out the State Farm Volleyball Showcase, No. 7 Sun Devil Volleyball fell to No. 9 Pitt in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) on Monday at PPG Arena.


Notable Stats
- Arizona State (2-1) fell to Pitt (2-2) in straight sets. This is just the fourth time ASU has been swept under head coach JJ Van Niel and his 11th loss overall.
- Junior opposite Noemie Glover continued her high level of play, notching 16 kills. It’s her third-straight match in double figures in kills. She added two blocks.
- Leading the defense was senior Bailey Miller with 13 digs, the only Sun Devil in double figures. She also had five kills, one ace and one block.
- Senior setter Sydney Henry had a team-high 22 assists, adding six digs.
Set One: Pitt 25, ASU 21
The Sun Devils scored five-straight points to start the match, a run that saw tough serving from Miller. The Panthers battled back, however, going on a 4-0 run to take the 9-8 lead. Back-to-back kills from Glover got ASU back on top at 14-12. Three in a row from Pitt put the home team in front at 15-14 heading into the media timeout. After some back and forth, the Panthers scored five in a row to go up 23-19. Another kill from Glover held off one set point, but Pitt was able to win the first set, 25-21.
Set Two: Pitt 25, ASU 18
Following some back and forth to start the second set, Pitt scored five-straight points to take the 8-5 lead. Miller’s smart play off the block stopped a run of three to make it an 11-8 deficit for ASU. However, the Panthers put together an 8-1 run to go up 16-8. Despite seven kills from Glover in ASU’s last eight points, Pitt took the set 25-18.
Set Three: Pitt 25, ASU 16
After trading points to start, the Panthers scored three in a row to go up 7-5, but an error and a kill from Kiylah Presley tied it up at seven all. A long rally ended with a block from Lomigora and Miller to make it a 13-10 deficit. Pitt went on a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 18-10. Three in a row capped off by an ace from Covell made it 21-15, bringing a Panthers timeout. The hometown team closed it out at 25-16

The Sun Devils will be home for the first time this season on Friday and Sunday, hosting the Nore-Stahl Classic at Desert Financial Arena. ASU will host Florida Gulf Coast on Friday for the home opener before taking on Loyola Marymount on Sunday.
