(Gilbert, AZ)  In a season of incredible feats, Park University Gilbert women’s basketball star Kayla Schroeder just put the cherry on top of incredibly delicious season. Schroeder was named third team All-America by the NAIA. This is the first All-America nod for Park Gilbert women’s basketball and the second All-America recipient in school history.

For Schroeder, this honor caps an incredible season which also saw her win California Pacific Conference Player of the Year, named first team all-conference, become the all-time leading scorer in school history, the first 1,000-point scorer in school history and is also now the career leader in field goals made and attempted, three-point field goals made, attempted and percentage, free throw percentage and minutes played. She is second in field goal percentage and third in steals.

Schroeder scored in double digits in 28 of 29 games, scored 20-plus points in 12 games and 30 or more in three games with a high of 33 points against Cal Maritime. She averaged 19.2 points per game. NAIA Player of the Year Jamie Pickens of Carroll (Mont.) scored 20 or more 11 times and 30 or more 4 times with a high of 32 points and averaged 19.1 points per game.

Schroeder is no stranger to winning awards as she was named Cal Pac Freshman of the year in the 2021-22 season and first team all-conference and then was named to the Cal Pac second team in 2022-23. She was named to the all-conference all-academic team the last two seasons and was an NAIA Daktronics Scholar Athlete last season and is expected to earn that honor again this season.

This is the second All-America kudos in school history joining volleyball player Amanda Jonovich who was named honorable mention All-America after the 2022.

“I am incredibly proud of Kayla as a player and a person,” said Buccaneers head coach Ben York. “The amazing season she had is directly correlated with the time and work she puts in both on the floor and in the classroom.”
