Caysen Wright earns medalist honors as Aztecs Men’s Golf takes fifth place at SMCC Invitational

(Laveen , AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s golf team closed out its fifth regular season tournament on Wednesday at the South Mountain CC Invitational held at the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen Village.

The Aztecs took fifth place in the final team standings with a two-day score of 588 (296-292). They finished 2-strokes behind Paradise Valley Community College (586-295-291) for fourth place and 7-strokes behind Chandler-Gilbert Community College (581-291-290) for third place. South Mountain Community College took first with a 549 (284-265).

Freshman Caysen Wright earned his third medalist honor in five tournaments this season as he tied for fifth place with a 2-under par score of 142 (71-71).

Freshman Gabe Herbst shot a 3-under par 69 in the final round as he finished in 17thplace with a total of 147 (78-69).

Sophomore Luis Lopez (Sahuarita HS) closed out the first round with a 1-under par 71 as he took 23rd place in the individual standings with a two-round score of 150 (71-79). Freshman Colton Boone (Douglas HS) finished the tournament with a score of 153 (79-74).

The Aztecs will close out the regular season at the Eastern Arizona College Invitational on April 8-9 at the Mt. Graham Golf Club in Thatcher. Teams begin to tee off at 8:00 a.m.
