Pima Baseball sweeps doubleheader against Langley Blaze Club

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (24-8) played a non-conference doubleheader on Monday against the Langley Blaze Baseball (BC) at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.

Freshman Andrew Hall closed out the day going 3 for 6 with two RBIs and three runs while freshman Collin Senior (Horizon HS) finished 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs. Freshmen Taylin Oana and Christian Castilla picked up the wins on the mound.

Game 1: (18) Pima Aztecs 8, Langley Blaze Baseball Club 0

The Aztecs got to work early on offense as they scored four runs within the first two innings and sealed it in the late innings. They held Langley Blaze to just two hits for the game.

Sophomore Jontae Hennesy (Horizon HS) hit a groundout but scored sophomore Antonio Avila, who led off the inning with a walk.

The Aztecs loaded the bases with one out in the 2nd inning and Avila drove a double to the third base side as Hall and freshman Ray Jesse came in to score to make it 3-0. Sophomore Sterling Albrand scored a run to cap off the inning.

The Aztecs tacked on two runs in the 5th inning when Senior scored on an error and Hall hit an RBI triple to drive in freshman Caden Richards.

Avila finished the game 1 for 3 with two RBIs, a run. Hall went 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior was 1 for 1 with a run scored and three walks while Richards finished 2 for 3 with a run. Albrand drew a walk and scored on a wild pitch in the 6th inning as he was 0 for 1 with two runs and two walks. The Aztecs drew eight walks in the game.

Oana got the win as he pitched six innings, giving up one hit with nine strikeouts on 81 pitches.

Game 2: Pima Aztecs 8, Langley Blaze Baseball Club 2

Aztecs took an early lead once again and scored the final four runs of the game to earn the sweep.

The Aztecs took advantage of some miscues as they scored two runs off of errors and two runs on wild pitches.

Hall hit an RBI single in the 1st inning bringing in Senior. Hall scored a run in the 3rdinning after sophomore Austin Madsen’s (Canyon del Oro HS) RBI single. The Aztecs held a 4-0 lead.

Langley Blaze cut Pima’s lead in half with two runs in the 4th inning, but the Aztecs got them back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Albrand scored on an error and Senior brought in sophomore Elijah Reeves (Marana HS) after he grounded-out.

Madsen hit a triple and scored two batters later in the 5th inning. Freshman Chase Cummings led off the 6th inning with a double and later scored on an error.

Hall went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while Cummings was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Madsen finished 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Freshman Nolan Ganter (Pinnacle HS) and Hennesy each went 1 for 1 with a run and two walks.

Castilla picked up the win after pitching three and two-third innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on one hit with five strikeouts and three walks.

Aztecs baseball head coach Ken Jacome sits at 198 career wins at Pima (198-84 since 2019). They get back to ACCAC conference play on Tuesday at Glendale Community College. Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
