(Scottsdale, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (25-3, 17-3 in ACCAC) continued to roll as it earned an ACCAC conference win on Wednesday at Scottsdale Community College (12-14, 8-13).
The No. 14 ranked Aztecs defeated the Artichokes 85-69 for their 11th straight win. It surpassed their 10-game win streaks from the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
Up 57-47 with 16 minutes left in the game, the Aztecs went on an 8-1 run in three minutes to take their biggest lead at 65-48. They maintained the double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game.
The Aztecs trailed 41-40 but freshman Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) drained a three-pointer to put them back ahead. The Artichokes tied the score at 43-43 but Gonzales drew a foul and converted on a three-point play. Freshman Kota Benson (Mesa HS) scored in the final seconds as Pima led 48-43 at the break.
Gonzales finished with a team-high 24 points as he hit four 3-pointers and was 6 for 7 from the free throw line. He also had five rebounds and five assists.
Sophomore Jaylen Alexander posted a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds to go with four assists and two steals.
Freshman Wes Ball (Marana HS) closed it out with 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists while sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) added 12 points.
Benson contributed with nine points, eight assists, seven rebounds and two steals. They went 20 for 27 from the free throw line for the game.
The Aztecs will play their final regular season home game on Saturday when they face off against South Mountain Community College. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
