Game 1 – Park Gilbert 10, Dickinson State 2

Eight runs in the first two innings and strong pitching led to an easy 10-2 win over the Blue Hawks in the first game of a double header this afternoon.

The Bucs jumped on top in the first with a double by Caleb Rozier, followed by a walk and then another double by Brendan Blakeman to plate a pair. Blakeman would advance to third on the play on an error and then score on a ground out to close out the scoring in the frame.

In the second, the Bucs would add five more to the ledger with some assistance from the Blue Hawk defense. After a lead off hit by pitch, Rozier reached on an error by the DSU shortstop. Anderw Allanson would rip a single to center to score the first run and after a Blakeman walk and a wild pitch scored Rozier, Gino Caperon laced a double down the left field line scoring two more. This led to a DSU pitching change, but Diego Bejarano greeted him with a single and after another walk, Connor Hommes drove home the fifth run of the inning with a single.

On the mound Zachary Fogle kept the DSU bats in check, going 3.0 innings allowing only three hits and one run while striking out three. Matthew Medina made his second appearance of the season and threw three more innings allowing two hits and one run. He did walk two and hit a batter as he picked up his first win of the season. Angel Heredia closed things out with a clean seventh inning.

The Bucs had 10 hits in the game, led by two hits each from Allanson, Bejarano and Hommes. Blakeman and Caperon each had three RBI.

Game 2- Park Gilbert 10, Dickinson State 8

The Bucs would have a tougher time of it in game two. They continued to put runs on the board, but the Blue Hawks would not go quietly into that sweet night.

Caleb Rozier would get his second start of the season and his career and made a solid accounting of himself, pitching 2.0 innings allowing one run on three hits and striking out two.

DJ Martin (2-0) would come on in relief and gave up one run in third and two in fourth, but picked up the win as the Buc bats would come to the rescue.

Park would put one on the board in the second, a five-spot in the third and two more in the fourth to give the Bucs a four-run advantage. Martin would throw a clean fifth and the Bucs looked to be in control.

After Park increased the lead again with a solo run in the fifth. DSU would start to make things interesting. In the sixth, the Blue Hawks would put three runs of its own on the board  off of Josh Leckey to cut the lead to two, 9-7 and force Park Gilbert skipper Kelly Stinnett to bring in his closer Diego Bustillos to retake control of the game. With two outs, the Bucs all-time saves leader came in and got a strikeout to stop the bleeding and get the Bucs back into the dugout.

Park would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth a Rozier led things off with a walk. He would the steal second and third before scoring on an Allanson single.

Bustillos would come out for the seventh and deal with a little issue as DSU would score a run on back-to-back doubles. Bustillos would get a strike out for the second out and the DSU inexplicably tried to take an extra base down two with two outs and was caught stealing to end the game.

Bustillos would pick up his second save of the season and the ?? of his career.

Caperon and Bejarano would each have two hits and Allanson would get two RBI. The Bucs walked seven times and only struck out once.
