(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert baseball team dropped a double header to 25th-ranked Benedictine Mesa today at Mesa Community College, losing game one 14-11 and game two 6-4.

The Bucs are now 14-14 on the season and 6-5 in Cal Pac play. This is the second weekend in a row, the Bucs won the opening game of a series but lost the series after being swept in the double header the next day.

Game 1, No. 25 Benedictine Mesa 14, Park Gilbert 11

The Bucs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game one after scoring four runs in the first and one in the second.

BENU returned the favor in the bottom half of the second and third, scoring four runs in the second off of starting pitcher Trey Langan and then three more in the third off of reliever Ivri Margolin to take a 7-5 lead.

Park would tie the game in fourth on Nick Miller’s first home run of the season and a Diego Bejarano double.

The game would remain tied until the seventh when the Redhawks would score four runs off of Bucs reliever Josh Leckey. They would extend the lead in the eighth with three more runs.

The Bucs would make things interesting by scoring four in the top of the ninth, but the deficit was too much as the Bucs fell by three.

Bejarano went 3-5 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored, Miller, Caleb Rozier and Jesh Leckey each had two hits with Miller and Jesh Leckey posting two RBI each.

Josh Leckey (1-2) took the loss in relief.

Game 2, No. 25 Benedictine Mesa 6, Park Gilbert 4

Park jumped out in front for the third consecutive game in the series but could not hold on to the lead.

The Bucs scored once in the first on Matthew Seibold’s first career home run, and in the second inning on a Cole Gillespie sacrifice fly.

Benedictine Mesa would take the lead for good in the fourth with six runs (five earned) off of Bucs starter Zachary Fogle (2-2).

DJ Martin (3.0 IP) and Matthew Medina (1.0 IP) would hold the Redhawks down the remainder of the game to give the Bucs a chance, but the Bucco offense could only put two more runs on the board over the final seven innings. Rozier hit his second home run and Seibold picked up his second RBI of the game with a single in the seventh.

Seibold would go 3-3 on the day and Rozier 4-5. Jesh Leckey picked up two more hits for the second consecutive game.

The Bucs return to the field on Tuesday, March 19 at 6 p.m. with a non-conference game against SAGU-AIC at Arzona Athletic Grounds.
