Broden Cahoon and Dillon Arvayo set qualifiers in the Decathlon as Men’s Track & Field opens Outdoor Season

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s track & field team opened the 2024 Outdoor Season this weekend.Sophomore Broden Cahoon took second place in the Decathlon with a total of 6113 points while fellow sophomore Dillon Arvayo (Mountain View HS) placed third with a total of 5963 points.Sophomore Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) started off his outdoor season setting a new personal-record in the 1,500 meter race. He took third place with a time of 3 minutes, 49.41 seconds. His time put him second in Pima Outdoor school history as he topped Abdi Abdirahman’s record of 3:50.80. He will get the record if he beats Larry Martinez’s record of 3:48.21 set in 1977.Freshman Kolby Lewis (Basha HS) improved on his national qualifier in the Pole Vault as he set a new personal-record with a mark of 4.75 meters (15-feet, 7-inches).Sophomore Raekwon Weatherspoon took first place in the Long Jump and fell just short to gain his national qualifying mark. He finished the Long Jump with a mark of 7.23 meters (23-8.75). Weatherspoon also set a new personal-best in the 100 meters with a time of 10.68 seconds.

The Aztecs have 14 athletes who have set national qualifiers.

The Aztecs will compete in the Willie Williams Invitational held at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
