(Carlsbad, CA)  The Park University Gilbert beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to ranked opponents at the Cal Pac Jamboree at Warm Waters Beach in Carlsbad, Calif., this afternoon losing to the University of Saint Katherine 4-1 before falling to No. 6 Westcliff by the same 4-1 score.

The Bucs were oh so close to pulling the upset in the opening match against the Firebirds as the Bucs, down 2-1, had two three set matches where if they had been able to win would have pulled out the team victory. They were unable to pull out the wins, falling 15-13 and 15-10 in the two deciding sets.

Park’s match with No. 6 Westcliff did not go as well as the Bucs fell 2-0 in the four matches they lost to the Warriors.

The No. 2 flight of Nichole Gary and Grace Baker continued their outstanding season winning both matches today in straight sets. The duo now up their dual match record to 15-10 on the season.

The Bucs conclude play in the Jamboree tomorrow, March 23 as they take on Benedictine Mesa at 8 a.m. and then finish with Simpson at 2 p.m. Earlier this season, the Bucs dropped a close contest to BENU losing 3-2 and swept Simpson 5-0.
