(San Francisco, CA) Senior vault specialist Anaya Smith is on the All-Pac-12 Vault First Team to represent Sun Devil Gymnastics, her second time earning this honor
Smith was also on the All-Pac-12 Vault First Team in 2021, her freshman season. Arizona State has had at least one gymnast earn All-Pac-12 honors in each of the last three seasons and has had a Pac-12 postseason honor for six-straight seasons.
The All-Pac-12 First Team consists of the top six all-around performers, and top six performers in each individual event (including ties) based on national qualifying scores. All-Pac-12 honorable mention recipients are the seventh- and eighth-place performances in each individual event and the all-around (including ties) based on national qualifying scores. For the complete list of Pac-12 honorees, head to the conference’s website.
On vault, Smith has been a strong point for ASU, ranked No. 18 in the nation on Road to Nationals at the end of the regular season. She has six event titles and six scores of 9.9-plus. Her season best is a 9.950, which she scored on February 2 at home and is the highest score any Gym Devil has scored on vault this season. That score was part of a four-meet streak where she earned at least a 9.900 in each meet.
Vault has been the most consistent event for the Gym Devils this season, ranked in the top 20 all season, which no other event has achieved. The highest vault total of the season was 49.475, which was scored in a tri-meet at Southern Utah. The team has scored at least a 49.000 for 22-consecutive meets dating back to last season, which is the longest streak in program history.
Arizona State is heading to NCAA Regionals next weekend, competing in the California Regional in Berkeley in the first session of the second round on April 5.
