(Tempe, AZ) Luca Petovary one-upped her performance over the weekend with 20 goals, 4 assists, and 4 steals in four games in the ASU Invitational after tallying 15 goals in San Diego the week prior. She broke a program record with nine goals against Marist on 12 shots which also ties the MPSF record for most goals in the game. The four-year Sun Devil was named MPSF player of the week as announced by the league office Tuesday.
It’s the second weekly honor for the Sun Devils this season and Petovary’s fifth career honor, embarking on her third Player of the Week award for her 20-goal performance leading the Sun Devils in goals in all four games, leading to a 4-0 record this past weekend.
The Senior started the weekend netting a hat trick on five shots against No. 12 UC Santa Barbara in a 12-6 victory, she also tallied an assist and a steal in the win. On Saturday, she scored four goals against conference rival No. 19 San Jose State in a 9-5 victory, accounting for 44% of the teams’ scoring, while also swiping a steal.
That same day against Marist, Petovary scored nine goals along with three assists in the 23-7 victory over the Red Foxes. Her nine goals set a new program record, surpassing Vanda Baska’s mark of eight goals against No. 17 Indiana on Feb. 27, 2022. The mark also tied an MPSF record. The senior also tallied 12 points which tie’s for second most in program history with Juliette Dhalluin. Petovary has three games in her career where she’s tallied double-digit points in a game.
Capping off the weekend on Sunday, the senior posted four goals against Ottawa-AZ on all four of her shots, also tallying a steal in the 23-1 victory. So far this season Petovary has 11 straight games with three or more goals, and has tallied 52 goals this season, one shy of tying her career-high, and leads the MPSF conference by 22 goals, with her teammate Millie Quin at 32 goals respectively. Petovary has 67 points and 15 assists on the year, whilst having nine steals this season through 12 games.
Lastly, the Hungarian has 182 career goals which currently ranks third all-time in program history, and is tied for third in Sun Devil history with 247 career points.
