(Stony Brook, NY)  After an early deficit to No. 11 Stony Brook (3-0), Arizona State Lacrosse (3-1) faced just a one-goal deficit at the half, but ultimately fell 20-9 to the Seawolves in the team’s first road game of the season. The program-best 3-0 start was halted after today’s loss, the first of the season for ASU.

Senior attacker Mina Scott led the way for the Sun Devils with four goals, all of which came before the half for a first-half hat trick.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first quarter, Stony Brook came out swinging with five goals in the first frame. ASU had two goals on the board, both of which came from Mina Scott and the deficit was three after one quarter.

The Sun Devils scored three straight goals in the second quarter after the Seawolves put two more goals on the board to cut into the lead. The 7-3 deficit was down to just one goal after goals from Scott, Bella Ingrao, and Lydia Oldknow each netted a goal, and ASU faced a 7-6 deficit at the half.

In the third quarter, ASU managed to get just two goals on the board, which came at the 11 minute mark from Berit Brookfield, and again  in the final seconds of the quarter from Katie Haley. Stony Brook countered with an eight-goal third period to take a 15-8 lead into the final frame.

ASU recorded just one goal in the final frame from Brookfield, while allowing five to Stony Brook and the 0-0 score stood final. Sara Flobeck replaced Katie Vahle, who had tallied nine saves in net, with 8:06 remaining.
