(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (21-3, 13-3 in ACCAC) continued its winning ways on Saturday as it hosted Yavapai College (11-14, 4-10) at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 18 ranked Aztecs dropped 100 points for the fourth time in the last five games and the 15th time this season as they beat the Roughriders 100-90.
Up 77-71, the Aztecs went on an 8-0 run to match their biggest lead of the game at 85-71 with 6:26 left. The Roughriders hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut Pima’s lead to eight points but they would only match that deficit one more time.
The game saw four lead changes in the first half as the Aztecs clung to a 43-35 at halftime. The Aztecs went 24 for 34 from free throw line (.706) and grabbed 15 offensive rebounds. They out-rebounded the Roughriders 50-35.
Sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) did his work on the glass in the first half but found his shot in the second half as he scored 19 of his team-high 25 points in the second half. He finished with nine rebounds (seven in the first half). He shot 4 for 6 from three-point range in the second half and was 5 for 8 for the game. He also added three assists and three steals.
