Buccaneer Men’s Volleyball Loses at Simpson

(Redding, CA)  The Park University Gilbert men’s volleyball team fell for the second time on its three-game road trip losing to Simpson University 3-0 (15-25, 16-25, 13-25).

The Bucs played well in the first set with eight kills and only two attack errors to hit .273 but Simpson was even more effective with 14 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. The Red Hawks also had four service aces in the set.

The second set saw the Bucs able to curb the Red Hawk attack holding them to eight kills while they posted seven kills. Simpson added to its ace total with five more aces in the second set. Both teams saw a drop in offensive production as Park hit .095 while Simpson dropped to .211.

The Bucs struggled in the third set, hitting negatively for the set with 4 kills and 8 errors.

For the match Park hit .058 while Simpson hit .333. The Bucs posted its highest three-set kills total of the season with 19 kills.

Individually, David Shafer led the Bucs with eight kills and hit a season best .350. Richard Steeler posted his best match as a Buc with 4 kills and hit .333. Jake Burdick has 15 assists and Tyler Yu led the team with eight digs and had the only ace of the night for the Bucs.

The Bucs look to get on the winning side of the ledger tomorrow evening as they finish the three-game road trip traveling four hours south to take on UC Merced at 7 p.m.
