(Angwin, CA) The Park University Gilbert men’s volleyball team lost its opening match on tis three-game road trip, losing to Pacific Union 3-0 (22-25, 15-25, 14-25). The Buccaneers are now 0-4 on the young season and 0-1 in Cal Pac play.
The Bucs played a competitive first set, staying within striking distance of the Pioneers throughout the set, but were never able to close the distance as they dropped the opening set by three.
The next two sets were controlled by PUC as the Bucs struggled to mount any offense. The Buccaneers hit negatively again for the match with 18 kills and 19 errors. The Bucs hit .000 in sets one and three with five and six kills and errors in each set respectively. They had one more error than kills in set two.
David Shafer led the team with 11 kills. No one else had more than two. Jake Burdick had 17 assists and Shafer also led the team with seven digs.
The Bucs road trip continues in Redding, Calif., tomorrow as they take on Simpson at 7 p.m. Arizona time.
