(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (15-6, 10-4 in ACCAC) put together a dominating performance on Wednesday at Glendale Community College (6-14, 2-12).
The No. 17 ranked Aztecs gave up its second lowest point total of the season as they beat the Gauchos 78-28. They gave up 25 points to Community Christian College in the first game of the season.
Up 10-7, the Aztecs went on an 18-0 run that carried over into the second quarter. They held the Gauchos scoreless for seven minutes to take a 28-7 advantage. They led 40-17 at halftime.
Pima opened the third quarter on a 14-3 run in six and half minutes to make it 54-20. They sealed it with a 16-0 run between the third and fourth quarter. The Aztecs outscored Glendale 38-11 in the second half.
Freshman Rylei Waugh scored a team-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee HS) was the other Aztecs player in double figures as she finished with 11 points. She also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Pima bench scored 31 points and were led by freshman Reece Niemann, who had nine points and four rebounds. Freshman Sage Begay (Flagstaff HS) posted eight points, four rebounds and two assists. Freshman Katie Burns (Catalina Foothills HS) led the team with six assists to go with three points and three rebounds.
Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) had five points and 10 rebounds and sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) contributed with eight points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Aztecs return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they host Scottsdale Community College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
