Vault Powers No. 24 Gym Devils to Tri-Meet Win

(Cedar City, UT)  Behind a massive vault rotation, No. 24 Sun Devil Gymnastics took first with a 196.200 in the tri-meet at No. 25 Southern Utah on Friday night, with Utah State taking second (195.375) and SUU placing third (195.075).

Notable Stats

Arizona State (3-1) scored a 196-plus for the second meet in a row. The event scores for vault (49.475) and floor (49.300) were new season highs for the squad.

The vault rotation for the Gym Devils was next level. The team scored a 49.475, which is the highest vault total ASU has seen since February 10, 2006 at home. It is the eighth-highest vault score in program history. The first four gymnasts all stuck their vaults, each score earning a 9.900 or better.

Freshman Halle Gregoire had a break-out meet, winning the vault title with a career-high 9.925, which was the highest score of the meet across all four events. She also made her debut on floor, scoring a 9.850.

Senior Jada Mangahas won the first all-around title of her career with a 39.200. Her best score was a 9.900 on vault, which matched her career high.

On floor, senior Emily White secured the floor title with a 9.900, her second meet in a row earning that score. She had a solid meet, scoring 9.850s on bars and beam as well.

Multiple new season highs were earned in the win: Mangahas on vault (9.900) and floor (9.875), Gregoire on vault (9.925) and floor (9.850), Gracie Reeves on vault (9.900) and beam (9.850), Hannah Scharf on vault (9.900), Alex Theodorou on vault (9.850), White on bars (9.850), Sarah Clark on bars (9.850), and Kimberly Smith on floor (9.850).

Rotation One: Floor, 49.300 
The Gym Devils started off rotation one strong with both Gregoire and Kimberly Smithscoring a 9.850. White gave the Sun Devils another 9.900 on floor this season, which also won her the floor title, followed by Mangahas with a 9.875. Scharf wrapped up the lineup with a solid 9.825.

Rotation Two: Vault, 49.475
With four-straight sticks, the vault squad scored the highest vault total since 2006. Mangahas led the Sun Devils off strong with a 9.900. Gregorie had the highest score of the rotation with a score of 9.925, which also won the event title. Reeves and Scharf aided the Sun Devils with two more 9.900s. 

Rotation Three: Bars, 49.100
After a slow start on bars, the back three in the lineup scored 9.850s to end the rotation on a solid note. Mangahas, White and Clark helped pull ASU forward with their 9.850s. That was a season high for all of them, a tie for Mangahas.

Rotation Four: Beam 48.325
In the final rotation, the Sun Devils struggled. A strong start from Kayla Lee earned a score of 9.825. Reeves brought in a 9.850, but the next three struggled. White had a strong finish, earning a 9.850.

The last of three-straight road meets is next Friday at Utah to kick off Pac-12 play for the Gym Devils.
