(Gilbert, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (13-6, 8-4 in ACCAC) put together a third quarter run to take control in its game against Chandler-Gilbert Community College (9-11, 4-9) on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 17 ranked Aztecs went on an 11-4 run and outscored the Coyotes 29-14 in the third quarter on their way to an 81-58 win. It was the third time during the regular season that the Aztecs have bested the Coyotes.
The Aztecs took a 20-4 advantage after the first quarter but the Coyotes used an 8-0 run in the second quarter to cut it to 27-22. Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) scored an inside jumper to close out the first half as Pima led 29-22 at the break.
Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) finished with a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. She went 7 for 12 from the field and grabbed seven offensive boards. Hoffmeyer had 10 rebounds at the end of the first half.
Freshman Rylei Waugh went 8 for 11 shooting and also posted 17 points. She added five assists and four rebounds.
Sophomore Jordan Joe provided a spark off the bench as she netted 13 points after going 5 for 6 from the field and 2 for 2 from three-point range. She also finished with two assists and a steal.
Freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee HS) had nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Aztecs are back on the road for the next two games. They will be at Phoenix College on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. start time.
