Hoffmeyer posts double-double as Women’s Basketball downs Chandler-Gilbert CC

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (12-4, 7-2 in ACCAC) proved too much to handle on Wednesday against Chandler-Gilbert Community College (8-8, 3-5).

The No. 14 ranked Aztecs opened up a double digit lead late in the first quarter and carried it over in their 80-34 win at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

Up 17-5 after the first quarter, the Aztecs went on a 13-2 run to make it 30-7. They led 32-12 at halftime.

The Aztecs doubled-up the Coyotes in the second half outscoring them 48-22 in the second half.

Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) led the way with 18 points as she went 9 for 14 from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds and had two steals.

Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds to go along with six assists. She went 4 for 5 from the field and 5 for 6 from the free throw line.

Freshman Rylei Waugh also scored in double figures as she added 12 points to go with four assists and three rebounds.

Freshman Sage Begay (Flagstaff HS) scored seven points off the bench. Freshmen Gabby Lopez (Bisbee HS) and Annalise Holthaus (Ironwood ridge HS) each grabbed seven rebounds.

The Aztecs will hit the road to Yuma on Saturday when they play at Arizona Western College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
